Wuchopperen Health Service and Vocational Partnerships Group (VPG) are working together to create employment pathways for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

Coinciding with NAIDOC Week 2020, Wuchopperen announces a traineeship program providing employment opportunities for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander youth in Far North Queensland.

Heading the recruitment drive is local non-profit organisation VPG. Both organisations share a commitment to improving the quality of life for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and will work together to provide an entry pathway for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander youth into administration, facilities, IT and early childhood education.

VPG CEO Maryanne Tranter said the working partnership has been established to progress opportunities for young Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people in the local community.

“The program provides a boost in employment prospects for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander youth looking to kick start their career and work towards achieving their goals and aspirations. VPG will work closely with applicants who demonstrate strengths and skills matched to the positions available, providing pre-employment support to ensure young people selected by Wuchopperen are well prepared and ready for work,” said Ms Tranter.

Dania Ahwang, CEO at Wuchopperen Health Service said announcing the traineeship program during NAIDOC Week is of great significance to Wuchopperen.

“As we celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, and the community we serve, we recognise the importance of providing young Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people access to employment opportunities that promote strong foundations for a successful future,” said Ms Ahwang.

With an emphasis on the development of pre-employment skills, VPG works closely with young people and employers to ensure a positive experience transitioning into the workforce. All interested candidates are encouraged to contact VPG directly for further information.
