Transition To Work

The Transition to Work program, is an Australian Government initiative that helps young people aged 15-24 into work (including apprenticeships and training) or education.

Providing intensive pre-employment support, VPG’s Transition to Work program assists young people to set and achieve their employment and education goals. Offering tailored support to individuals based on their capabilities and interests, we help young people to:

  • Develop practical skills to gain employment
  • Identify education or training opportunities
  • Achieve tickets, licences, and qualifications
  • Access valuable work experience placements,
  • Connect with relevant community services,
  • And find jobs in the local area.

Our Youth Development Coaches work to build young people’s confidence and motivation, inspiring them to set goals and make positive changes in their lives.

We are committed to setting young people up for success, equipping them with the skills, opportunities and resources they need to achieve fulfilling and independent lives.

We proudly deliver the Transition to Work program across Far North Queensland from our five centres in Cairns, Atherton, Yarrabah, Innisfail and Mareeba. Contact details for our service locations can be found here.

Hear from some of the young people VPG have supported through the Transition to Work program below.

“VPG have given me the opportunity to explore careers I didn’t know existed – opening my eyes to different possibilities. They’re always there cheering me on, believing in me, and helping me be the best version of myself.”  Josiah, VPG Participant

“VPG has been there for me every step of the way, through my study and into employment. They provided me with driving lessons so I could get my licence and find a job within individual support and community services.”  Lea, VPG Participant

“When I first came to VPG they helped me figure out what my interests were, and found me a course I could study, would enjoy and possibly turn into a lifelong career.” Rory, VPG Participant

“VPG helped boost my confidence and got me somewhere I didn’t think I could possibly get. Working within the art industry is like a dream come true for me. I am really proud of myself and everything I have achieved with their help.” ~ Catherine, VPG Participant

“VPG helped me understand what it was I wanted to do with my future, and then together we worked out the steps I needed to take to get there. They helped me enrol in a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and through my placement, I secured work.”  Amber, VPG Participant
