After finishing school in Year 12, Megan was motivated to enter the work force and secure employment to support herself financially. With no previous work experience, Megan undertook intensive employability training through the Transition to Work program, helping her build on her strengths and talents in preparation for the world of work.
Through the program, Megan developed her work readiness skills and was supported with all areas of her job search – from resume writing and cover letters to applications and interviews. The program boosted her confidence and ability to start networking and interacting with prospective employers.
During the program, Megan secured casual employment at McDonalds, allowing her to gain valuable workplace experience and achieve financial independence. Following on from this, VPG presented Megan with a brokered Business Administration position at Thirkell Consulting Engineers & Building Design.
Keen to pursue a Bachelor of Business at James Cook University, Megan was excited by the prospect of gaining employment in line with her chosen career pathway and was referred to the employer as a suitable candidate. Through the recruitment process, Megan was identified as a standout applicant, which lead her to successfully securing the role in November 2019.
Eligible for the Youth Bonus wage subsidy, Megan’s employer was able to use the financial incentive to provide additional guidance, support and mentoring, to ensure she could succeed in her position and sustain long term employment with the organisation.
Megan has been praised for her commitment and work performance by her employer and continues to successfully juggle part-time employment and full-time study. Through the COVID-19 pandemic, Megan’s employer supported her as she worked from home. Now back in the officer, Megan is excited to continue developing her career with the support from her employer.
