The VPG Way

VPG is a not-for-profit community organisation based in Far North Queensland. Our purpose is to improve child and youth transitions. For over 25 years, we’ve been dedicated to improving child and youth transitions by empowering young people, strengthening families, and brokering partnerships between education and industry. Our work spans a wide range of youth programs, consistently delivering high-quality outcomes for youth, families, industry, and communities.

At VPG, we focus on Advantaged Thinking, The Deal, and connecting young people with real opportunities. These principles guide us in helping young people move from education to employment and life with confidence, skills, and a strong support network. Our approach has led to tangible success, creating pathways for young people to achieve their goals and make a positive contribution to society. 

Advantaged Thinking

For over a decade, Advantaged Thinking has guided how we work at VPG.  This approach recognises that young people have the potential to make a significant impact on their communities when they are given access to the right opportunities and social networks.

The Advantage Thinking approach focuses on making a positive investment in young people by building on their strengths and harnessing them for personal – as well as social – good. This method is centred around coaching and empowering young people to take control of their future decisions, while also engaging community to provide the opportunities and support networks they need.

By developing their abilities and guiding them towards real solutions —real jobs, real education, and real community connections — the Advantaged Thinking approach equips young people to lead independent, constructive lives.

The Deal

The Deal is how we create a partnership with young people. It’s a simple, clear agreement where everyone has expectations and responsibilities.

For the young person, this means staying committed to education, training, or employment, taking responsibility for their actions, and engaging in the opportunities provided. For VPG, it means offering guidance, support, and a range of opportunities to help them succeed.

The Deal helps young people develop the skills and mindset needed for independence. It encourages mutual respect and accountability, ensuring that both VPG and the young person are invested in achieving lasting success. It’s about setting up young people for life beyond VPG.

Opportunities

To achieve their goals, young people need real opportunities. At VPG, we connect young people to a wide range of experiences that help them build their future – whether through education, training, employment, work experience, industry visits or mentorship. We broker these opportunities with local businesses, education providers, and community partners, ensuring young people have the access and support they need to succeed. Our focus is on giving young people the chance to explore different career paths, develop their skills, and engage with the community. These opportunities help young people build confidence, gain experience, and see the many possibilities for their future. Whether they’re aiming for work, further education, or personal growth, we’re there to guide them every step of the way.
